BMW Sailing Cup

Freude ist Mitsegeln (race for the fun of it)

2012 is the seventh season for the biggest corinthian regatta in the world. Since it´s inauguration in 2006 the BMW Sailing Cup has drawn more than 6.000 sailors and more than 8 million spectators to the events in Germany alone. This year 17 events will be run all over Germany with one big national final. The winners of which will represent their country in the international showdown against the top finishers from Italy, New Zealand, Austria, Portugal and Spain.

The events are hosted by local BWM dealers with a sailing club in the region in charge of race management. Venues range from lakes close to major cities like Frankfurt or Munich to seaside resorts on the North Sea and Baltic. The beauty of the concept is that only individuals can enter and will then be drawn into teams which will compete against each other on an equal level in J80 one design yachts which are fast, responsive and easy to handle. Previous racing experience is obviously an advantage but no must. The race format is fleet races with on water umpiring. No yacht drops out early, each competitor is guaranteed thrilling racing until the end of each 2 day event. Live expert commentary and attractive race villages extend the adventure to spectators and offer entertainment for the whole family.

BMW chose Marinepool as their strategic partner and supplier for the BMW Sailing Cup 2012-2014. Like BMW, Marinepool focusses on the entire sailing market from amateurs to grand prix sailing and yacht clubs. This broad focus is reflected in the Marinepool product range. The 1.500 competitors in the 2012 BMW Sailing Cup will exclusively wear Marinepool buoyancy aids, event and sailing wear.
