The Transat Bakerly - Plymouth > New-York

25 skippers have set sails last week from Plymouth (UK) to reach New-York (USA) in solo. The fleet is divided into four categories : the Class 40, the Multi 50, the Imoca and the Ultimes. Along 3500 miles, the sailors will have to chase the wind despite the low pressure systems sweeping across the north Atlantic. When this emblematic sailing race was created in 1960, the fastest time to cross the Atlantic was about 40 days. Today, the means of technology enable to race the same distance in as little as 8 days ! Many famous French sailors have distinguished themselves like Eric Tabarly, Alain Colas and Loick Peyron.

Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, who has been racing under Marinepool flag for many years, is among the leaders since the kick-off in Plymouth. As he finished second at the last Route du Rhum, there is no doubt that ThibautĀ“s Class 40 Solidaires en Peloton is among the favorites to reach New-York ahead of the fleet.
