Historical results for the French Sailing Team at the Worlds in Santander

The ISAF Sailing World Championships ended last week-end in Santander (Spain). France has been crowned First Nation, an historical result with 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal ! The main objective of this competition has also been reached : France has been qualified to compete in all sailing olympic series for Rio 2016.

Guillaume Chiellino, manager of the French Sailing Team : « I am very happy of these results. The main objective was to be qualified in all series. Only Britain and New Zealand have also made it out of 87 countries. Now we will be able to focus on our preparation for Rio 2016. And we have shown our great potential to be among the favorite nations. Our champions have given the best and it was wonderful to hear three times our national hymn during the prize giving ceremony. They all deserved that recognition after the huge work they have achieved so far.».

Jacques Cathelineau, the national Director, is really proud of that performance : "This competition, gathering the 10 olympic series, is the best result of France´s sailing history. And it hasn´t been easy because 87 other countries came with the same objective. We have reinforced our sporting status on an international level 2 years before the Olympics. It bodes well for the future as the some of the youngest competitors are already part of the world sailing elite. Congratulations to the sailors, Guillaume Chiellino, the coaches and all the French staff of the French Sailing Federation."
