news - ISAF World Championships : France is the great winner

A the end of the ISAF World Championships, which took place in Santander (Spain) four 8 to 21 September, France won one bronze medal and 3 gold medals, including the Nacra 17 duo of Billy Besson and Marie Riou for the second time in a raw.

France is qualified for the 10 olympic sailing categories to contest Rio 2016. With 3 gold medals, France has also won for the first time in its history the Trophy of the International Olympic Committee. Created in 1999 during the ISAF World Championships in Melbourne (Australia), only Britain and Australia had brought the Trophy back home so far.

Guillaume Chiellino, manager of the French Sailing Team has declared :  

"We are really happy, we came in Santander with a unique goal : to be qualified in the 10 olympic series for Rio 2016. And we reached this main objective. We got also the icing on the cake being the first nation with 3 gold medals and one bronze medal. It is the first time in our history ! The team was really happy to receive the Trophy on the podium."
