The international sailing circuit kicks off the European season with the Princesa Sofia Trophy!

After Sail Melbourne and the Miami OCR the sailing circuit has gathered on the island of Mallorca to sail the first race of the ISAF World Cup in the European calendar.

The international elite will race for world cup points and for a royal hand shake with Queen Sophia and King Juan Carlos I who is a passionate sailor himself. An Olympian in 1972 he still shows his passion for sailing in the highly competitive Audi TP52 Med Cup where he helms the successful yacht Bribon.

1.000 sailors from 45 nations will race under the King´s critical eyes and will have to undergo for the first time three days of qualification. After this first selection the first third of the fleet will continue in the Gold Fleet, the Medal Race will be sailed only by the best 10 boats after the second qualifying round.

The medal races are scheduled for April 2. Watch out at this place for reports on the results of the many athletes on the Marinepool team competing in the Pricesa Sofia Trophy.
