Barcelona World Race

Barcelona, Spain, Dec 29, 2010

One day to go for the competitors of the Barcelona World Race, the double handed round the world race in IMOCA 60 yachts. Marinepool is sponsoring one of the most accomplished competitors in the race: Kito de Pavant

With this Barcelona World Race Kito de Pavant is hoping to put the abandoned Vendée Globe (due to boat damage) behind him and to complete his first circumnavigation of the globe. He has an exceptional partner with which to do so in the form of Sébastien Audigane.

Groupe Bel is the boat Kito de Pavant has taken the equivalent of twice around the world. The VPLP / Verdier design caused a sensation along with Marc Guillemot's Safran in the last Vendée Globe for their lightness, with radical solutions and outstanding performance downwind.

Kito came to the solo round the world challenge with a second place in the Transat B to B, but unfortunately a broken mast halted his great project. Back with force and with a new mast, the Frenchman took Groupe Bel to a magnificent second place in the Transat Jacques Vabre, sailing double-handed with François Gabart (Michel Desjoyeaux's partner on Foncia for this Barcelona World Race).

“I feel incredibly lucky that we have such a passionate and enthusiastic partner in Groupe Bel. Our team is well proven and very consistent. We feel well equipped to take on this exciting race. Seb has so much experience and is very strong and accomplished on the water. And he is a real authentic sailor who looks and feels most at home on the water, really at one with the elements. Partners like Seb are very hard to find”,  says Kito.

Sébastien Audigane: “The Barcelona World Race is a great, renowned race which allows top level international co-skippers to compete two-handed non-stop around the world. Kito has established a solid, very competitive project and to be able to share this experience with him is a honour and a pleasure.”

Guillaume Jouët, Communications Director of Groupe Bel: “We want to share an extreme, inspiring and international adventure in the Barcelona World Race with our teams of workers, our clients and our partners.”

"Our IMOCA Open 60 is designed to race round the world and so it will be great to do it. We made good preparations for the 2008 Vendée Globe but had to retire soon after the start when the rig broke. Since then we have optimized the boat. Our team is well proven and very consistent. We feel well set up and ready for this challenge.” says Kito de Pavant and leaves no doubt that he is racing in the Barcelona World Race to be first to the finish!
