49er Europeans: Chances for a podium finish for Marinepool Racing Team alive!

Last day in the finals of the 49er Euro

Today is the last day in the finals of the 49er Europeans off Gdynia, Poland. A day most important to secure a good position for Saturdays´ Medal Race or to consolidate what was achieved so far.

After 13 races the top teams on the overall rankings are separated only by a few points and the Marinepool Racing Team is still in a position for a podium finish. The Nickos, Austrians Delle Karth/Resch are in fourth, less than two points behind Danes Norregaard/Lange, with two British teams in front. Who knows where they would stand today, had they not broken their forestay in race 9 of the series. The resulting discard put their 35th in race 2 back on the scoreboard. Currently they are 16 points behind Gold….

The other Marinepool Racing Team still in a position to win Bronze are Frenchmen Dyen/Christidis, twofold World Cup winner in 2010. They are currently in 6th and are in a make-no-mistakes position, if they want to make up some of the 24 points which are currently separating them from 3rd.

Germans Schadewaldt/Baumann sit in 16th position which belittles their excellent performance on the race course. A black flag disqualification and another DSQ were too much for a place in the medal race. 9 top-ten finishes in 12 races would most probably have earned them a spot.

The only Marinepool Racing Team disappointed are Austria´s Tommis, Thomas Zajac/Thomas Czajka, who did not make the targeted cut for the Gold Fleet this time.
