news - Geritzer takes the lead!

June 08 2010

Andreas Geritzer (AUT) continued racing in top form at the Laser European Championship off Tallinn (EST). The silver medallist of Athens 2004 is leading the fleet, going into the second half of the event and currently is seven points ahead of the second sailor in the European scores. Only Tom Slingsby of Australia has done better so far but does not count for the European Championship.

The second sailor of the Marinepool Racing Team on gold course is Cypriot Pavlos Kontides. The double junior world champion leads in the Under21 category in which he has opened an enormous gap of 65 points to the second. No wonder, his performance so far, a 12th in the overall rankings in the standard class is a huge achievement!

But also the results of the other Marinepool Racing Team members give reason to celebrate. Simon Grotel├╝schen is back in the top ten and Malte Kamrath has steadily improved and currently ranks 14th.

The ladies also showed their potential. Anke Helbig had two top ten races and is now 26th overall. Franzi Goltz also had a great day, went 19 ranks up the ladder and is now in 29th. Greek champion Maria Vlachou could not keep up and has only improved three places, now she is 47th.

Laser Standard Top 3:

1. Andreas Geritzer (16, 4, 2, 2, 2, 6)
2. Rutger Schaardenburg (1,1,1,26, 17, 3)
