news - Laser EM - Afterburners on for Geritzer!

June 07 2010

Andreas Geritzer (AUT) turned on the after burners on the second day of the Laser Europeans off Tallinn (EST) and made a huge step up in the rankings after two second places in races 3 and 4 respectively. After four races a discard comes in and he could take out the 16th in the opening race of the regatta from his score sheet. This meant a leap forward for him and after two days he is 3rd in the regatta and 2nd in the rankings for the European Championship which does not count sailors from other continents.

Simon Grotelüschen (GER) on the other hand suffered a setback. His 8th in race 3 confirmed his great form but a 36th in race 4 threw him out of the top 10, after the second day he ranks only 18th.

Martin Kamrath (GER) member of the same HNV squad improved one rank in the overall standings to 17th.

Like for Geritzer it was also a great day for Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus. The junior world champion of 2009 sailed to 4th and 6th in the two races of the day and could discard his BFD which means a 14th in the rankings after the second day.

For our Laser ladies the way to the top is still far. Only Anke Helbig (GER) could improve in the ranking list by 10 places and is 35th now. For Constanze Stolz (GER) it went the other way, she fell back to 42 from 28th. Franzi Goltz had an even worse day and is now 48th.

Maria Vlachou of Greece also has a difficult regatta. The former Laser World Champion is scoring midfield places and is 50th over all.
