news - Gold and bronze medal for Marinepool athletes at the World Cup in Medemblik, NED!

Two medals, one gold, one bronze and many more top results for the Marinepool sailing team in Medemblik, Netherlands.

The past weekends was show-down-time for the sailors of the Delta Lloyd Regatta 2010 off Medemblik, NED with the medal races scheduled. The sailors of the Marinepool team once again showed their extraordinary class and scored top results.

In the Olympic 2.4 class Damien Seguin (FRA) won the gold medal. In the 49er Austrians Nico Delle-Karth and Niko Resch won Bronze and defended their lead in the overall standings of the ISAF World Cup series. Other Marinepool teams included Emanuel Dyen and Stephane Christidis (FRA) in 5th, Erik Heil and Thomas Plössel who were best German team and scored their best ever World Cup result. The teams of Federico and Aturo Alonso (ESP) in 19th and the second Austrian team of Thomas Zajac and Thomas Czajka in 39th position were not sailing to their full potential.

Hot matches were seen on the match race courses where the ladies fought out their championship. Greek Olympic Champion Sofia Bekatorou showed her best racing so far on the World Cup circuit and finished an excellent 4th. The second Marinepool team, European Match Race Champion Ekaterina Skudina (RUS) had to settle for 5th this time. Lotte Meldgaard of Denmark who won Bronze in the Europeans only two weeks ago did not have the best race and finished 16th.

On the 470 race course Daniel Zepuntke and Dustin Badewein, the youngsters from Berlin, showed their potential and only narrowly missed the Medal Race. With the best result of the German squad they were happy anyway. Matthias Schmidt/Florian Reichstätter (AUT) had a slow start to the series and finished 16th one place ahead of Frenchmen Charbonnier/Meyer. The second team from Berlin Jan-Jasper Wagner/Lennart Scheuffler who came 27th and Austrians Davin Bargehr/Lukas Mehr completet on 55 completet the scores for the Marinepool team.

Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorent, Junior European Champions in 470 had a bad race and were unhappy with their finish in 28th position. Team mates Victoria Jurczok and Josephine Bach shared their fate, their 36th finish was also way below their own expectations.

An excellent race was shown by Lisa Fasselt of the HNV Team in Laser Radial. She confirmed her great from with a 14th rank.

One of the best Results of the Marinepool team was shown by Cypriot Andreas Carioulou. With one race win and two seconds under his belt he finished an excellent 6th over all.

The next World Cup event will be Kiel Week from June 19-23 with a line up of Marinepool sailors fighting for points again, including the successful German and French Star sailors and the strong HNV Laser Team.
