news - Kick-off for German sailors at Olympic Games

Aug 08 2016

Day 3 of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (5th until 21rst August 2016) marks the beginning of this year's most important competition for German National sailors. Today is the beginning of the competition for Laser sailor Philip Buhl to fight for an Olympic medal.

After Friday’s spectacular opening ceremony in the Maracanã stadium that gave the first creeps, the two room neighbors Toni Wilhelm (Württembergischer Yacht-Club) and Philipp Buhl (Segelclub Alpsee-Immenstadt) will show the sportive highlights from today on. ''The preparation went ideal and I have had a chance to familiarize myself with the new material.

I am very exited to finally give everything. During the training session everything went well and I hope to show that during the competition’’ says Toni Wilhelm before the start of his third and last Olympic Games for him. He is with 33 years the oldest and most experienced sailor among the German team.

''To have the Olympic rings with my name in the sail will be something special for me. I have already trained in Kiel to sail with it in my sail and as soon as the first start signal will be given I will have my tunnel vision so that this will not take me out of focus’’ explains a very relaxed Philipp Buhl.
