Marinepool on board of 4 contenders in Saint-Malo

Over 80 skippers will set off from the city of Saint-Malo, Brittany (FR), on November 2nd in their bid to win Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe, one of the biggest single-handed offshore yacht races. Whether on board a monohull or a multihull, the sailors will be up against the ultimate challenge to race their yacht alone in a transatlantic race towards Point-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.

Created in 1978, the race is held every four years and will celebrate its 10th edition this year. It has become a major event for the ocean going Class 40 boats as well as for IMOCA and multihulls. The Rhum category is for all other sailboats measuring from 12 to 18 meters.

4 Marinepool supplied sailors on the start line

Four sailors fully equipped with Marinepool performance sailing clothing and functional sports wear will take part in this famous single-handed race.

In Class 40, Damien Seguin, 2004 Paralympic Champion and veteran offshore competitior, will race this competition for the second time. In 2010 he finished 10th out of 45 entries. The second Marinepool supplied skipper, Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, has been the skipper of a brand new Mach 40 since July. Living in Saint-Malo and native from Guadeloupe, his first participation will have a highly symbolic meaning.

In the Ultime category, Sidney Gavignet who broke the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Record with his crew in August, will be at the helm of Marinepool partner Oman Sail´s flagship, the MOD70 Musandam - Oman Sail, but this time solo. Skipper of the trimaran since 2012, he knows his yacht inside out and his participation in the last Transat Jacques Vabre 2013 with Damian Foxall has ensured the ability to sail this yacht alone even if it remains a very demanding boat.

Yann Guichard, onboard the largest racing trimaran in the world, Spindrift 2, is about to face a serious challenge by crossing the Atlantic ocean solo on this giant of the seas. The preparation of the skipper and the optimization to adapt the boat to a solo configuration have required a colossal work : a lower mast, no more foils, optimization of the equipment onboard to ensure the skipper is able to maneuver alone and minimize the risk of capsizing.

We are proud Marinepool is the choice of the world´s leading skippers in this transatlantic adventure. It represents another opportunity for our performance offshore gear to proof that no conditions are too extreme. Regulating the body climate and keeping the sailors warm and dry, Marinepool performance clothing plays a key role for the sailors in preserving their energy for the tasks at hand and achieving top performance.
