The GERMAN DRAGON GRAND PRIX will be held at a different Venue this year. For the fifth edition of this high class Dragon Regatta the holiday resort "Weiße Wiek" is the host of choice. Together with the Marina Boltenhagen and the Iberotel and the Dorfhotel Boltenhagen the resort is one of the most innovative tourism projects in Germany.
The racing will be organised by the NORDDEUTSCHER REGATTA VEREIN, one of the most prestigious German yachtclubs. Thus honoring the late NRV member and co-founder of the GERMAN DRAGON GRAND PRIX Harro Kniffka, who was the founder of Hanseatic Lloyd shipping group and for years sponsor of the event. Racing will be conducted from July 11 to 14.
In addition to tough races in a superb sailing venue, athletes and spectators can look forward to a line up of social events. First and foremost the CHILDHOOD race, a fox hunt on the water, great fun for spectators, actively participating guests, sponsors and media and for a noble cause.
Each of the 80 participating Dragons will have a special guest on board, to catch the fox (a Dragon with a balloon at the stern that needs to be punched) and is helping children in need with a contribution. Spectator boats, a special course and natural obstacles make catching the fox more difficult and add to the spectacle.
The CHILDHOOD race is followed in the evening by a charity social event for children in need. The event was 2009 leading the "TOP-10 Charity Ranking" with € 200,007 raised!
The WORLD CHILDHOOD FOUNDATION as founded by Her Majesty Queen Sylvia of Sweden in 1999 and aims at helping the most marginalized children, the ones most often ignored and forgotten. Childhood focuses especially on girls and the main target groups are street children, children living in institutions, young mothers and sexually abused children. With support of volunteers, companies and other foundations CHILDHOOD finances 100 projects in 15 countries. CHILDHOOD foundations can be found in Stockholm/Sweden, Sao Paolo/Brazil, New York/USA and in Munich and Berlin/Germany.
