Naval Academy Grand Prix 2011 - Championnat de France Monotypes

The Navy and The Naval Academy have always been intimately linked to the world of sailing. In fact, sailing is one of the pillars of the training offered by the Naval Academy and the Navy has been a partner in offshore racing for many years in charge of rescue operations and in case of an emergency to rescue sailors in distress.

Presentation of the Grand Prix Ecole Navale in Brest

It was aboard the Navy ship Belle Poule, where Admiral Marc de Briancon, Commander and Chief of the Naval Academy, presented the Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale - Championnat de France 2011 Monotypes Habitable in the company of Henry Bacchini, vice president of the FFV, Alain Daoulas, Commissioner General, and Nicolas Troussel, sponsor of the event.

Each of them addressed the growing success of this event. The Grand Prix Ecole Navale expected over 180 teams and 970 team members for this year´s edition.

On Saturday, June 4, the site of the Naval Academy will open to the public for a wide range of activities. Eight thousand people are expected.

Admiral Marc de Briancon: ''The Grand Prix comes to the Naval Academy's new home this year. We will have the Longtze Student Cup final, the M34 fleet demonstration, an environmental charter and much more. We're very pleased and proud that the Grand Prix has established itself as one of the leading sport events and want to thank our 40 partners!"

Generations meet on a Championship

The Grand Prix of the Naval Academy has become a must-be-there event over the editions, a tradition for all classes of sportboats. The Open 5.70, the Longtze, the Class 6.50, the Seascape 18 and the Open 7.50 - a new generation of yachts is racing in the event.

And as Henry Bacchini, Vice-President of the French Sailing Federation, stresses, the Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale - Championnat de France Monotypes is also an opportunity for different generations of sailors to mingle: "The fleet of the Open 5.70 is very interesting : Adults will confront young people with high hopes who come to prepare for the French Championship. This trans-generational aspect is very present in the Grand Prix. "
