Marinepool and Kito de Pavant: together on board for the Transat Jacques Vabre
Marinepool, the German brand of technical and maritime clothing, keeps on supporting the famous French sailor Kito de Pavant who will show up at the start line of the Transat Jacques Vabre on October 30th. Over 30 crews will set off from Le Havre harbour in Normandy  to contest this biennial and two-handed race that became one of the biggest offshore yacht race. On board a monohull or a multihull, the sailors will launch their assault on an express transatlantic race towards Puerto Limon in Costa Rica.
True to its sporting, human and eco-friendly values, the Transat Jacques Vabre will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. When it began in 1993, it was a solo-handed yacht race that headed for Columbia, following the historical route of the coffee trade. Along the years that have been marked by the success of this event, the race format and its destinations have changed, first to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil and then to Costa Rica since 2009. It has become a key event in the landscape of offshore racing. With a significant fleet of 60-foot monohulls, it is a major competition of the IMOCA circuit alongside the Vendée Globe.
The two running classes will take different routes before entering the West Indies. The 40 and 60-foot monohulls will leave the Dominican Republic on the starboard hand while the faster multihulls will have to turn the island of Saint-Barthelemy in the Northern Caribbean and head south to Barbados before beginning a final sprint to Puerto Limon. In that way, the competitors should meet the same deadline at the final destination.
A conniving and promising duo
Kito de Pavant, well-versed in sailing on board a monohull, distinguished himself as a winner of the Solitaire du Figaro 2002 and was close to winning the last Transat Jacques Vabre on board Groupe Bel with a second place on the podium. After the young champion sailor François Gabart, Yann Régniau will embark with Kito to run for the prestigious list of winners. Together, they will form a promising duo. Because of the complicity that links these two men and their complementary skills on board. Kito is a talented sailor and has a great offshore experience on monohulls while Yann, also a keen sailor, has been involved in the Groupe Bel project since 2006 as sail designer. Both shipmates of Jean Le Cam between 2001 and 2005, the duo has plenty of experience of sailing together and real chances to win.
The German clothing producer Marinepool is pleased to take part in this transatlantic adventure and renew its support to the Groupe Bel sailing project. Partners since (20..?) with a view towards the upcoming Vendée Globe, Marinepool and Kito de Pavant have combined their expertise and knowledge to develop a range of technical clothing. The light weight and waterproof clothing, also comfortable for maneuvers, has been tested in extreme conditions. It undoubtedly plays a key role in reaching performance. It also provides the customer with the guarantee of high quality products tested by those who evolve in the demanding environment of offshore racing.
