news - Wieser champion of the champions

Nov 02 2010

36 teams were meeting for the Championship of the Champions at the Außenalster in Hamburg last weekend.
Eligible for this event are all present holders of titles. With many title bearers from Europeans and Worlds, the field of participants was very strong this year. Even record holder and America´s Cup participant Karol Jablonski was taking part.

Unfortunately the wind was not too good. Anyways the sailors competed hard and fair.
The field of participants was split up into three groups of which only the first two teams could reach the next level. The third team had the chance to qualify via a so called repechage.
With only twelve teams left the "triple races" were started. Three teams had to fight against each other whereby only the best team got ahead.
In the final the teams of ex BMW Oracle helm Sten Mohr, the actual German Match Race Champion Stefan Meister and Markus Wieser met each other.
With a winning start Wieser and his crew opted for the first place in the first title race. Winning also the second final race they really deserved the title "Champion of the Champions 2010".
