The Class-1 World Powerboat Championship 2010 concluded yesterday, with the Emirates/Dubai Duty Free Grand Prix, held off the Palm Jumeirah, next to the club facilities of Dubai International Marine Club.
Dubai´s Victory team (teamwear for Victory is designed and produced by Marinepool) won the 10th world title in Class-1 and Arif Al Zafeen/Nadir Bin Hendi won their third title and are now also 3rd in the all-time ranking of Class-1, having scored their 21st victory together this Sunday. While Fazza dominated the races in the 2010 season, winning all races but three, the remaining spots on the world championship podium were fought out in epic battles on the race course between a number of teams and were decided in the very last race of the season.
Negotiator, pictured above in front of the spectacular skyline of New Dubai, claimed second place in the season and driver Luca Formilli Fendi, of the famous Italian fashion dynasty and throttlemen Giovanni Carpitella, were extremely happy with the result.
The duo who started to race together in Abu Dhabi midseason, has ordered a new race boat for 2011 and is determined to win the top spot next season.

Marinepool boat fastest in 2010 - Sportsmanship gesture of the year for Victory

Negotiator is owned by team principal Chris Parsonage, a Class-1 Veteran and former event promotor in Class-1, and he was piloting his own Marinepool branded race yacht in Stresa, ITA, this season.
“What a season for Negotiator, we are absolutely delighted with the final result of this season. 3rd in the EDOX Pole Position ranking 2010, 2nd in the European Championship and 2nd in the World Championship was certainly more than we could expect, coming back to Class-1 this season! Absolutely Fantastic!”, said team owner Chris Parsonage
The result was very much in doubt only two weeks ago when Negotiator had a bad crash in Abu Dhabi caused by Skydive Dubai which left the boat seriously damaged.
In a display of extraordinary sportsmanship Team Victory threw all resources behind the repair of Negotiator in the Victory yard and together with two of Parsonage´s own carbon experts the common effort was good enough to bring the boat to the starting line. While Negotiator was repaired there was no time left for Victory to repair their own Skydive Dubai race boat, also wounded in the crash. The team, second in the world ranking after Abu Dhabi, could not start in Dubai and was overtaken in the World Championship by Negotiator. Hats off for Victory!
Welmax of Norway, another team sponsored by Marinepool, hat a mixed season and could win only one race in 2010. However, they were the team to beat in the EDOX Pole Position runs, the speed runs before the first race of the weekend, determining starting positions. They were clearly the fastest boat and given the troubles they faced during the season the world title in this category tastes even sweeter for Kolbjörn Selmer and Jörn Tandberg.
Final results 2010 championship:
1. Fazza - 212pts ?
2. Negotiator - 116pts ?
3. Skydive Dubai - 110pts
4. GSG Ceramic Design - 95pts ?
5. Welmax - 91pts ?
6. Team Abu Dhabi - 62pts ?
